Century modern lighting began with the invention of oil lamps which in 1784 became the perfect form thanks to the work of a Swiss, AMI Argand. His lamp had a tubular bends, the air drawn from the sides through the middle of the tube, whereby was maintained a vivid and almost no smoke of the flame. Subsequently, in the Argand lamp had begun to use kerosene, which also affected the quality of the flame.
