A magnifying glass is sometimes called a simple microscope, as it is used during the observation of small objects. However, full zoom with minimal image distortion is used to design two or more lenses. Such a device is called a complex microscope.
Compound microscope consists of two convex lenses. The objective lens creates a magnified image, which then again increases the eyepiece lens. As in the astronomical telescope, the image is upside down, but during the study of tiny samples this is not so important. Many complex microscopes have a set of objective lenses of different magnification.
